Full-time BSc (Hons) in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering

This new award is based around the core module requirements of the Part-66 B1 licence. This licence is a legal requirement for engineers prior to being selected for type training, which then gives authorisation to sign off aircraft for flight after maintenance or repair. The basic B1.1 licence requires candidate's to pass 13 modules, 1-11,15 and 17. These will be examined over the three years of the course under the Part-147 licence approved at ICAT. In addition to each Part-66 examination, assignment work will be set to assess the depth of understanding and critical analysis of the broader module concepts.”

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) requirements are for a minimum of 2400 hours in total of knowledge training, skills training and maintenance experience. The course has been designed to satisfy these requirements.

The Part-66 modules teaching, skills training and professional work experience will be further developed by University of Glamorgan modules in the areas of Management, Communication, Engineer in Society, Total Quality, Project Management and an Individual Project. The BSc (Hons) Aerospace Engineering has thus been developed to give Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status.

It is envisaged that, eventually, the existing Part-66 e-learning modules, developed by ICAT to be available on the internet will be extended to cover all the B1.1 basic license modules and that the ISELS e-Learning Services Team will develop the University of Glamorgan modules to enable the complete BSc (Hons) programme to be studied online.

Candidates who register for the Part-66 modules and satisfy the examination, but not the additional assessment, will be awarded the credits associated with the examinations only and exit under alternative module codes.

In line with the University policy of widening access, all the above awards can be accessed through the Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering foundation programme.
